The Lake District

The Lake District is an ideal location in which to spend a vacation if a person wants to enjoy long, picturesque walks. The area is undoubtedly renowned for its beauty and geographical wonders. It is certainly one of the most popular places in the UK to visit.

Most of the luxury holiday cottages are clustered close to the A591 road. This is useful, as it gives visitors easy access to the area. There are other, more out of the way cottages, found on each side of the lakes. Troutbeck and Hawkshead have many unusual properties to stay in. People should avoid looking for these in Kendal, as the area has a limited number.

Tourists come in droves each year, to see the places that inspired the literary giants Beatrix Potter and Wordsworth. There is a cottage once owned by Potter, which now serves as a museum. There is also a quaint pencil museum within driving distance of the lakes. In between visiting these attractions, it is common for tourists to try the delicious local ice cream.

As the name suggests, the region is famous for its vast lakes. There are 16 that visitors can explore. The largest, Lake Windermere, is the host of popular boat tours. There are many stunning mountain walks to test a person’s endurance. Helvellyn via Striding Edge and Central Fells stand out as two of the best.

Visitors should be aware when booking their holiday cottage, that public parking is known for being expensive. Therefore, they should limit their driving to only when necessary. The district is a walker’s haven anyway, so not having to drive everywhere is not an entirely bad thing.
